need help on hi-performance workstation

You dont have to use a AMD GPU with a AMD board, you do however have to use them if you plan on running them in xfire. What slaymate is saying is that you need to save more money before you really even begin to have this discussion.

do you think it would be better to wait for bulldozer, and purchase a phenom ii x6 1100t with an am3+ motherboard. the problem i that adobe doesnt list any firepros or radeons, while autodesk does. any ideas?

I haven't seen anything that would make me want a AMD, or wait on Bulldozer for a workstation pc.

AMD FirePro and Radeon cards are generally lower performing in workstation applications.

actually people are saying that the 8-core bulldozer beats the i7 990x in benchmarks.

Maybe it will, maybe it won't. The few benchmarks that I've seen haven't been very impressive, but they may or may not be real.
