This may be stupid, but I gotta ask. I'm sure there is something I can do....

My system is hp6520f upgraded w/ an extra 1.5 TB 7200 64mb internal drive, the OS drive is only 5600, my RAM is upgraded to 14GB...Processor is the stock AMD Athlon II 2.88ghz

I recently installed an esata connector for an external 7200 64mb drive...

My question- I notice when I transfer files the data speed starts out high and then gets lower and after about 10 minutes, the rate levels out. Ex. the Esata goes from about 138 mbs to eventually 86 mbs.

What I am wondering is what I can do to maximize my systems speed when writing files from one disc to another w/outing frying the system or doing things too dangerously?

make sure the driver for your storage controller is at the latest and greatest version.

connect drives to separate ports. no daisychaining. connect one one drive to one port on mobo.

make sure cables provide best speeds possible.

reduce the amount of misc other apps accessing the drive. this is to reduce other data being saved to the drive at the same time.

check for configs of the storage controller. check for drive utilities from HD manufacturer
