ok here is the deal, im doing a bit of searching and trying to put together a decent pc on limited funds. i am going to throw together a list of things and post it later, but in the mean time if anyone wants to help me out that would be awesome. pretty much im looking to spend anywheres from like 500-800 dollars on it and would at LEAST like to be able to play games like cs 1.6, but if possible better ones, ok well if you feel like throwing togther a list or even suggesting parts that perform well and arent too spendy, alright well later

an AMD xp 2500+ would work nicely. A good $50-$60 motherboard.

I just slapped this together pretty fast, so I may not have all the "best" components and what not, but you can look and see what you like. All you will need now is a case, psu, fans, and software (if you need it). You have $279.00 to spend on that

the general consensus in this forum is to go socket 939 instead of 754. 754 is dead already and is limited in RAM usage... especially if you are going sempron(which you shouldnt) sempron is a horrible processor go AMD XP if your gonna go this cheap.

these two DO NOT support Dual channel RAM, socket 754 never will, even if the motherboard does, the CPU was not built for it.

so then, there was no point in adding this ram, was there.

TOTAL of:$577, so it fits nicely into your budget. plus a cd or DVD drive and maybe a bit over $600 but thats still 200 under your limit.

the idea is that you get a lesser CPU and overclock it to the standards, and often above, of a greater CPU. this one overclocks nicely, just talk to Nubius

that is basically it for a basic setup - plus a CD or DVD Drive, which is cheap, and you have yourself a very nice system which will play even Doom3 on very nice settings.

I don't believe anywhere he said that the Corsair RAM would run in Dual Channel, he merely suggested getting a kit of RAM which would be cheaper than getting a single stick of that size...although yes I'll agree he should have posted a little side info that infact he won't be able to run dual channel with a socket 754 board.
