From what I understand you don't really need a 6 core for gaming since there aren't any games out that utilize 6 cores yet.
The decision should be between a Phenom II x4 9XX BE and the i5 2400.
Obviously the i5 wins in performance (965BE vs 2400), but as people have said there are other benefits to the AMD path, primarily a much lower price tag for decent performance (from what I've read the human eye can't perceive much of a difference over 60 fps anyway).
That's completely wrong. I used to believe that, but there's been tests where pilots can recognise and name planes when shown a video, when only 1 frame in 500 is the plane (there's other evidence too).
You're right Yami, found the article (or just an article) with a USAF pilot eye test, its at the bottom. Now to find a CPU, GPU and monitor that supports 500+ FPS.
