Alright, well heres the deal. I need a new gaming computer for college, so I figured I would go ahead and build one and try to get a little more bang for my buck. Any advice on the parts would be greatly appreciated! Heres what im thinking right now:

Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition

MoBo: ASUS M5A88-V EVO AM3+ AMD 880G HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)

Hard Drive: HITACHI Deskstar 7K3000 HDS723015BLA642 (0F12114) 1.5TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Video: SAPPHIRE 100338L Radeon HD 6770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Case: Thermaltake V4 Black Edition

Power: RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-730SS 730W

Welll there it is. Total for that build would be $650 without the OS. Please let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Sam

Don't get that Hitachi. Get a Western Digitall Caviar Black 1.5TB. Longer warranty and greater speed.

That PSU is not recommended. Get a Corsair TX650 or HX650.

Okay, thanks alot. Is there a cheaper alternative to that hard drive you suggested? I dont neccesarily need 1.5tb, Im sure I could get by with 750. But also, if you believe that hard drive is very reliable then I would have no problem spending the extra $20. Does everything else on there look good? Will it provide me with a computer that will be able to play the latest games and last awile?

Thanks,
Sam

Alright, I am definatley going to switch to the western digital 750gb and the corsair Tx650. I think im going to go for the older model TX650, the newer one seems to have more problems then the previous one. Thanks for the help!

While this may not save you any money I do have a performance suggestion for you.

Go with a smaller (250-320GB) WD Black drive for your main drive (or even a SSD) and a large(r) drive for storage. Just how big will depend on what you want to store. Music isn't too big but movies can take up a lot of space (depending on how they are stored). You can go with almost any drive for the storage drive, even a Green.

Speeds will definitely improve on an SSD versus and standard hard drive.

Go with the 955 over the 965. It comes stock clocked at 3.2Ghz, vs. the 3.4Ghz of the 965, but you can just up the multiplier, and have a 965 for $15 less.

Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more! This combo would save you roughly $50 over what you have chosen right now.

Essentially the same, but with the 955 combo, and a MUCH better video card (XFX 6850, double lifetime warranty, can't beat that...), and PSU, however the Hard drive is a 750GB. It is $13 more total. You also get a total of $45 mail-in-rebates.

Newegg.com - Thermaltake V4 Black Edition Gaming Chassis Mid Tower Steel Computer Case Fully Black Powdered Interior VM30001W2Z

Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD7502AAEX 750GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Newegg.com - XFX HD-685X-ZNFC Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

Newegg.com - Antec EarthWatts EA750 750W Continuous Power ATX12V version 2.3 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply

Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM

Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more!

If you aren't doing a lot of video/audio/image editing, you can drop to 4GB of RAM (Fully capable for today's games, and A LOT of future games to come). That'll save you $30.
