im going to be building my first pc…ive posted here before when sandy bridge was just coming out but due to family issues was not able to purchase any parts or start building when I wanted to so im starting from scratch since a lot more stuff is out with new opinions

my budget is around 1700 usd less is of course better but I dont want to cheap out I want something that's going to last me

i will be using the computer for basic photoshop and video editing nothing extreme basically converting videos simple encoding like that along with basic pc and internet tasks, bittorrent download and all types of multimedia stuff..i will not be overclocking atleast for awhile i wont be.. so no matter what processor i get i might want to get the k version just to leave my options open

im looking for this build to not be complicated since it is my first and im already anxious and nervous about doing it overall I just want it to be a highend basic pc and would like it to be as hassle free as possible

so depending on my setup if you feel like I need certain adapters because of my case or motherboard like sometimes things don't reach right then please tell me rather buy extra stuff then having to find it out during the build process

when it comes to cases the only brand I don't like at the moment is a very popular one and that's cooler master..the reason being the static electricity issue they seem to have with a lot of there cases causing random reboots..its all over newegg reviews of there cases and various other forums im not saying it will happen to me but its something that's common enough that I don't want to take a chance especially considering where my pc will be in a carpeted room that at times the air is very dry in

besides that im I want to have an ssd as my windows drive is there anything special I should do when installing it ive heard if im putting in a hard drive as well to put that in after so the windows setup doesn't have any issues defaulting to the ssd.. anything else I have to actually do for the ssd or do I just install it like a hard drive and windows will take care of the rest such as taking it off ide mode?

and ive heard mixed rumblings about the sata controllers on the new boards intel vs marvel is there a preference with the sandy bridge boards on what I should use the ssd will be sata 3 so should I hook up to intel or marvel..hard drive I think im going with sata 2 but same question applies

sorry for rambling on I just really wanna do this my self I just have some anxiety about it

this is what ive come up with so far please feel free to add or remove stuff and tell me why your doing so

with motherboards im stuck between the listed msi board and the asus sabertooth or p67 deluxe..let me know what you think if you would choose one over the other and why or if theres any other boards

and case im still not 100 percent on either so recommend away

and dont need a monitor right now

If you are going to get a Corsair PSU, get the TX650. I don't know how much better the HX is, but I know many people who prefer the TX.

The Marvel 6Gb/s controller is just slightly slower than the Intel 6Gb/s controller.

The main difference between the HX and TX is that the HX is modular and more efficient, unless you get the TX V2 which is also 80+ bronze.

I love Corsair cases, solid build and awesome cable management, just a shame they're so darn expensive.

Personally would upgrade the video card, the GTX460 was great but is quickly sliding down the performance list(#20). Not sure how graphic intense "all types of multimedia stuff" is going to be, but it never hurts to have things looking sexy.

For the record, and I'm almost certain I've told you this before, the HX is as good or better thaqn the tx models. Theyre made by seasonic, and are extremely good quality. They have some of the best modular sleeved cables out there.
Has a 7yr warrentee vs 5... More connectors... The list goes on and on....

My 520hx ran my 260s and q6600.

So Please., don't put them down as I'd get one over a tx any day..

Peopled "perfer" the tx because they cheap out on psu's because they think they don't don't do anything

Roark the hx line is 80+ bronze too now.

I think the HX line has always been 80+ bronze, thats why I said its modular and more efficient.
The TX line started as only 80+, but with the newer V2 versions they are now 80+ bronze, like the HX.

To my memory, you never told me that, patonb, unless it was a whisper in the air. I said I didn't know. I go by what I know. So now I know, if you know what I'm talking about. :p

cheap out on the TX? There are much cheaper things than that. ;)

@Rorak: Does that mean the TX and HX are the same quality? Other than the dual PCI-e cords and modular?

have a new question besides wanting more opinions on the above..i just realized this..for now i want to use my current dell flat panel lcd monitor it does not have hdmi or dvi connection how can i connect a newer video card to this monitor

Theres not alot to talk bout on your build. Its quite solid, and in my opinion, mobos at that price level are pretty much the same. None really better or worse.
Kinda like gpu's... especially with Intel making ALL the main chipsets.

You don't plan on overclocking yet, so you don't need an aftermarket heatsink, though it'd be a perfect addition, minorly cooler temps but alot quieter.

All in all It's a good job specing thne build. You could save abit of money by getting a non-overclocked card and doing it yourself... saves 10-30 bucks. Just make surfe you still get the lifetime warrentee.
