Hey my hard drive has been bad for a while so i got a wd caviar black 500 sata3 and today it showed up at my door

My question is should i have the sata port set as a IDE? or ACHI?
does it really matter? is one better or faster?

thanks (a quick answer would be appreciated.)

Is this a new OS HDD, or are you replacing a secondary HDD?

If it is a new OS HDD, your best bet is to use ACHI. Its the latest architecture.

If it is a secondary drive, you do not want to change from IDE/ACHI. Because it is written into your OS as IDE or ACHI. Changing that can mess up windows big time.

Thanks for the quick reply. Thats what i was thinking from looking around the web a bit but wasnt 100%
But its gonna be main HD with a fresh windows7 install. then ill add another hd probably tomorrow with a fresh ubuntu install.

So ACHI for both drive should be all good?
