alright...so i know a fair amount when it comes to computers. except the internal stuff :p more software knowledge than anything. and just by reading some other threads, i think im in the right place. :D

so, the budget im lookin at is probably right around $1,000.
questions:
what components do i need?

which ones would u recommend?

i really like this case but point me in the right direction if u find a better one that i may like :)

Well, for $1,000 that case my not be the best choice. You probably don't need a full tower, but I did what I could (I'm assuming this is for gaming).

I used Newegg, but you can probably find them on TigerDirect as well if that's who you want to buy from.

Newegg.com - NZXT Phantom PHAN-001BK Black Steel / Plastic Enthusiast ATX Full Tower Computer Case
Newegg.com - MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52500K
Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD6402AAEX 640GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Newegg.com - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply
Newegg.com - LG Black 10X BD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA Internal Blu-ray Drive Model UH12LS28 OEM LightScribe Support - Blu-Ray Drives
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100314SR Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

You also get this for free with the Blu-ray player: Newegg.com - imation 8.5GB 8X DVD+R DL Inkjet Printable 25 Packs Spindle Disc Model 26732

Subtotal: $1,064.92
Shipping: $16.08
Grand Total: $1,081.00

I put a 640gb hard drive. Some get 1tb, but I have a 500gb and I still haven't filled it up yet, so 640 should be plenty.
The graphics card can handle any game...not at maximum settings, but it will do okay.
If you wanted a lower price...I'd recommend getting a cheaper case:
Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER HAF 922 RC-922M-KKN1-GP Black Steel + Plastic and Mesh Bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000-KKN1-GP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Newegg.com - Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

hmm..that all looks good..
sorry i forgot to mention...i do play a lot of games but i also listen to A LOT of music so i wanted to get the best sound card i can get (or **** close)

oh!! and i also forgot to mention that i kinda put some stuff together and was hoping to get some feedback on it
heres what i came up with.. total: $1,336.82

lemme know :)

but the parts you listed seem pretty solid so i may just use your recommendation.

Not to be mean or anything, but what you've got there is...lacking... :)

850 watt power supply is too large, you won't need a third-party cpu cooler unless you plan on overclocking, the processor is a waste of a $100 in my opinion if this is a gaming + music computer (you don't need the additional 4 virtual cores), and that motherboard is not compatible with that processor; you need a 1155 socket, plus that hard drive is pretty slow, you'll want at least 7200 rpm.

Most motherboards nowadays have pretty good in-board sound...but if you insist, I picked out some good ones (listing from highest to lowest price):

Newegg.com - Creative PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series Sound Card
Newegg.com - Creative 70SB088000004 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Express 1x Interface PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium
Newegg.com - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
Newegg.com - Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card - Sound Cards

Although, if you're going to spend 100+ dollars on a sound card, you'd better have some good speakers otherwise it will be useless...

i keep remembering stuff that i should mention...im also a graphic designer. so should i get an even better graphics card? ive heard good things about the Radeon HD ones
