I am having some problems with a new hard drive I bought for a advent laptop. It had a 120GB installed but I wanted to upgrade that to 500gb so I bought this:

500GB 2.5" SATA LAPTOP HARD DRIVE TESTED FULLY WORKING on eBay (end time 20-Apr-11 22:45:11 BST)
500GB 2.5" SATA LAPTOP HARD DRIVE

Now when I turn the laptop on I get this message:
SMART Failure predicted on hard disk 0: WDC WD5000BEVT – 22A0RT0-(S1)

WARNING: Immediately back-up your data and replace your hard drive. A failure may be imminent.

Is there something wrong with the hard drive or should I go ahead and install windows?

Thanks for any help people

If SMART says something is wrong, it is most likely there is a problem. Contact the seller and ask him for a replacement.

What Mindover said. Scrap the current Hard Drive and get a new one or contact the seller and request for a replacement. It's not worth the time and frustration to install windows to see it crash, permanently, a few minutes later.
