I know all the hype about HDDs. WD and seagate are my top two.

Now then, this is a file server for the house and ALL my movies and files. Not like a web server.

What I am asking is, Do I really need a WD Black? I do have one 1.5TB. Other 2 x 640GB are blue grade. (before the different types came out) If not a WD, would a certain Seagate match that? I do not want to spend $87/100 on a Black 1/1.5TB

What say you?

You won't actually notice much difference between any of the high-end HDDs from any of the major companies (Seagate/WD/Toshiba/etc.), especially if you're just using it for a file server.

The difference in cache wouldn't matter that much, no - but the difference between WD green and blue also includes the RPM. The green is like, 4500RPM compared to the standard 7200RPM, I believe. So it would be more noticeably slow in that respect.
