I hear people talking about motherboards and how some are better than others, but what exactly is the difference between motherboards in terms of performance (excluding dual channel of course). I know some crap out sooner than others, and some have extra options or slots, but if i have a gig a ram and a socket A processor, what is the difference between performance of boards? Do some boards process/transport information faster?

hope you understand what im asking. Thanks for any answers

Mostly the only HUGE difference is the boards features. ie: SATA, RAID, AGP 4x/8x, RAM slots, USB ports, Firewire ports, Onboard Audio/video, and other smaller features.

On the other hand it dpends what A socket cpu you have. If you have a 333MHz FSb or a 266MHZ FSB, Maybe the board only supports up to 266MHZ.

Does that help?

The differences are in name brands, how good tech support is, what kind of options the BIOS has, what kind of options the board itself features. You have to take all these things into consideration when buying another board and things such as that.
