virus trouble hard drive d

Well. my first time ever on any forum. I hope someone can help me with my problem. I am not able to open certain files on my drive D anymore. A message pops up saying the disk in drive D is not formatted. Do you want to format now? Ofcoure this should not happen because it is not a cd rom. I read an old thread where someone had the same problem, I did everyhing that was suggested there but nothing helps. I installed spy bot and hijack this and swb. still nothing. If anyone has suggestions I would be very greatfull. I don't want to lose all that wonderfull music. PS if I am writing this message in the wrong place I'm sorry I still have to get the hang of this forum thing.

could very well be a virus.. but if i were to give my expertise.. which is little to none.. i more than likely think its a damaged hardrive that has some bad sectors on it or something of the like .. could always be a virus tho.. in any case.. unless you can find an antivirus that can take it off(if it is a virus).. your best bet either way is to format the HD... if it has to be done .. it has to be done =(

Great to find out that a forum works, thanks for your reply. I did actually delete a virus with trend micro online scan. I dont know if its the cause but say it is, is there any way I can recover lost data? Like a free dl program or something?

i dont think so man .. once its gone .. its gone .. sometimes if the HD is messed up enough a format wont even fix it.. but i always say, unless it makes hurring odd clicking noises out of it .. its not messed up enough =D.. best you can do is try to copy whatever isnt infected/on bad sectors .. try trial version of norton anti-virus off of www.downloads.com .. if its a virus.. it will tell you you have it .. i use it .. a pretty good atv program .. but like i said .. im pretty sure your HD is in need of reformatting ... btw.. did you try defraging the disk? that might work .. i had a messed up HD before .. and when i ran disk defrag it froze my PC and next thing when i reset it it told me there is nothing to boot off of .. so ... heh .. try to copy stuff that you can off of the HD(if its a virus this is obviously not what you want to do tho) next step is try defragging it see if it helps ... and after that ... format D: is your next step

run scandisk and c if anything is wrong. it'll auto fix if sumthing is wrong. good luck!

This virus might have been a windows 32 file which you deleted since a virus was found not looking at the file. This may be whats perhibiting you from getting to some of your files. Windows xp has a systme recovery syste in place where you can role back your computer anywhere from a day to a year. If you dont have xp, i might have a disk with a role back featue on it that i can host on a free site for you to download.

And just when tired little me was about to drag her butt to bed a miracle happened. The room lit up with a glow of radiant rainbow colours floating around the computer. I stared in to the light and voila... scan disk solved it all. I am very greatfull and hopefully once I become a bit more of a know how I would love to help you in return. Still wonder how this could have happened but I am surely creating back up now.
