if you're going to overclock I would always recommend to do it yourself rather than letting a program do it. Each cpu/motherboard/ram is different and have different overclocking potential. The program can get a rough idea of what the limits are of your computer, but by doing it yourself it's a more exact science and you'll be able to regulate things with more effectiveness than a program.
You can use overdrive, but you're better off spending some time to really learn the ins and outs of overclocking and doing it yourself.
