What if I move the speaker and stick it on top of the monitor? The monitor has a slight downward slant as well so that would help the speaker point downwards towards me.

You can still keep the speaker on the back wall, just lower it some more so it's slightly above the top of the monitor and tilt it down towards you. Tip: (If you can't see the bottom of the speaker when you are sitting down, you placed them to low)

You can also put the speaker on the desk, below-front of the monitor, but you'll have to tilt it up abit.

If you want to tape it to the top of the monitor, that is fine too. Just make sure that it is secure so it won't fall down.

It's not that good to put it directly behind the monitor since the sound will get reflected/deflected etc. If it's just normal sounds you probably won't notice much difference, however if it is soft/low sounds it will become muffled abit. Think of having a book infront of your face when you talk, the sound coming out just isn't as clear.
