cant access dvd drive

i have a cd/dvd drive at D: . I used to be able to access it fine but am somehow not able to do so anymore. If I put a DVD in, in Windows Explorer the name of the disk will actually appear. But I cant access / run it. I'm not home right now so cant give the exact error but I believe it says something like put a disk in, or cant read disk. And I think sometimes it doesnt say anything at all.

Btw the first time I realized I had this problem was when I was trying to burn stuff and it wasnt happening. What is a good USER FRIENDLY program for burning?

I would try taking a cotton swab, and clean the lasers inside. Make sure the cables to it are in working order.

I use Ashampoo, really can't go wrong on that...

I like to use either cdburnerxp or imgburn, there both free and easy to use. For movies i use nero 8.

how do you clean the lasers inside? do i have to disassemble it?

No, you just take the front panel off. You should see the laser.
