I was looking in my BIOS and found an option to enable/disable something along the lines of Power On Self Test . It says it will decrease boot time, but is there any risk in disabling it ?
Hi. No, there's nothing wrong with disabiling it. All it controls is the test at the beginning of the boot-up process where you get the memory test and system information. If you disable it, your computer will just skip that part of the boot-up and go straight to opening windows. After that at the beginning of the boot-up process you will have to hit the F1 key in order to get to your bios again.
It doesn't harm your system. I have it enabled and nothing really changed. On my aunt's computer though, it checked the memory about 3 times before booting and only 1 time with Quick Power On Self test enabled.
I would recommend leaving it on for about a week after building a computer to make sure your system is stable, and running smooth. After that I'd take it off for the faster boot up.
