Technically the dual is better for higher end stuff. SINGLE can support the 1920x 1200 resolution @ a specific frequency. However, if a dual layer DVI cable is used for the 1920x1200 resolution, will the frequency be reduced or anything change when if a SINGLE layer cable were to be used?

It's single and dual link.
Single and dual layer refers to optical discs (DVD, blu-ray, HD-DVD).

Dual link means there is a second set of wires that carry data.

Single link DVI supports 1920x1200 at 60Hz.
Dual link DVI has enough bandwidth for 1920x1200 at 120Hz, but there are no monitors that support it (only some 1920x1080 monitors).

Thanks alot!

i currently have a ATI Radeon x850 xt and a Dell 2405FPW. I was just wondering if the Dual link would benefit my setup. Seems like it wont be. If I still use the Dual link cable in this setup will I still be able to use it?
