I haven't been too active lately, mostly lurking behind the scenes and watching the mods area due to work/life.

That's what the shipping box is for. You can't expect for the shipping box to arrive in mint condition. All the shipping box has to do is protect the contents and as long as the package isn't falling apart, wet, or been severely crushed (not little bends in the cardboard) the contents are fine, provided that the initial shipper shipped a good working product and packaged it correctly. Besides, if UPS, FedEx, etc. were to make sure that the box didn't have anything near it to damage it their wouldn't be a need for a shipping box in the first place.
