Hi. I have the post http://www.techist.com/forums/f76/building-new-computer-need-input-239180/#post1862067 and nobody is helping me there any more. I'm in the stage of getting the final parts for my computer and would like some input before I get my new video card for it (see other listing for my build).

On my current (old computer) i'm running:

(CORE CLOCK) 550 MHz (MEMORY CLOCK) 800 MHz (128 bit)

My new computers video card possibilities are:

(CORE CLOCK) 800 MHz (MEMORY CLOCK) 4000 MHz - $179.99 (256 bit)

(CORE CLOCK) 900 MHz (MEMORY CLOCK) 4200 MHz - $249.99 (256 bit)

(CORE CLOCK) 940 MHz (MEMORY CLOCK) 4600 MHz - $279.99 (256 bit)

(CORE CLOCK) 850 MHz (MEMORY CLOCK) 4800 MHz - $304.99 (256 bit)

Would I really notice much of a difference between these 4?
I don't know much about video cards (these 4 are all PCI Express 2.0 1GB XFX Video Cards and can be looked at on tigerdirect.com)

I need DVI or VGA and only need support for one monitor. The computer is used for video games, internet/email, and school work (college). The only thing that really requires graphics are my games.

Note: I have $320 to spend after getting my cpu and motherboard, but will still need my keyboard for $130. If I get the keyboard that leaves me with $190 for the video card, which means I'd have to go with the top one. Now on the other posting I have, someone told me to go with the one that's $304.99. I don't have to get the keyboard, but I would like to get the whole thing done and over with, so it would be nice to be able to get the keyboard too. I don't wanna rush into buying one though without knowing if there's that much of a difference between the 4 cards.

TY :)

can you just post links to the actual cards? all you're listing is clock speeds and prices.

LISTED!

With all the discounts, this card comes out to be only $200:
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100281-3SR Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ Eyefinity

It's the same as the other one except a different brand. It will perform the same.

No, the memory clock speed is only 1200 MHz instead of 4800 MHz.

The memory clock speed is way lower then any of the other cards I have listed.

The memory clock should be the same they are simply giving different stats. The memory on the Sapphire is clocked at 1.2ghz and since it's GDDR5 that gives it an effective clock speed of 4.8ghz just like the other cards.

CRAP!... I'm not going to be able to buy that card in time before the discount ends on it... anyone find any other card?... and still nobody answered my question would I really notice that much difference between the 4 cards that I have listed?

I was able to buy it, up until the point where my buddy needed to borrow $80 from me. -.-

5870>>5770 but 5770 is still a great card :)

better xfire potential in the future if u get the 5870, u can pair it up with a 5970 when they get cheap!
(5770 can only be paired with a 5770 or 5750)

If I upgrade the video card in the future... I'll just buy a whole new one... I don't need to pair it up with anything. I'm thinking about possibly going with the $100 video card.
