I have a Windows 2003 server with Exchange and IIS installed on it that is connected to a SmartUPS and uses Powerchute small business edition basic. My question relates to Powerchute softwares ability to shutdown applications and the operating system. Basic edition cannot shutdown IIS and Exchange but it can safely shutdown the operating system. Now rather than spend the 450$ plus for Deluxe to handle exchange I was wondering if anyone knew whether having Powerchute shutdown the Operating System would then initiate the shutdown of exchange and IIS and allow time for those to close completely as if it were a user initiated shutdown. I cant afford to have my Exchange databases damaged in an improper shutdown but if this will address my needs I see no reason to buy yet more software.
