cpu - dual or quad?

my configuration:
GA-P35-S3G
E8500 @ 3,95gHz
GTX460 1GB OC
WD Blue 640GB
...
Win7 Ultimate 32-bit

i use my PC mainly for gaming, video editing/capturing/converting, and photo editing.
if i change my CPU and get an q8300, would i see any improvement?

Yes... you will. Well depends on your actual program used.

With the c2d you're hitting 100% cpu, but switching to a quad will either give much better speed, as you have 2 extra coees processing, or you'll free up cpu to run the other stuff and gain some more speed, just not a lot.

But for your activities, a quad is the better option.

Yeah quad-core will help a lot here. Games are also starting to utilize more than two cores, so you future proofing with a quad core
Another thing is, thats if i'm not mistaken, with a new quad core processor you should be able to install Windows 7 64 bit (64 bit disc will have come with the windows 7 install package as long as it's not OEM) therefore increasing your gaming experience a little

64-bit has nothing to do with the amount of cores. I have a single core Athlon 64 3800+ and an Athlon 64 x2 4450e.

and I'm pretty sure the Intel E series were 64bit.

didn't really mean about the number of cores, i really meant to emphasis the "new" processors.
