Issue:

I had a customer bring in a dv9000, her daughter had dropped it on it's side on a USB cord plugged in. This cord busted the internal connector off, slid in further and broke the connector for hard drive #1, right off the board.

question one, can I change something somewhere in the CMOS to boot from HD #2

if this is not an option, would this be a mother board replacement issue?

Question 1. If the option is there to boot from a secondary hard drive it would be under the boot options. That is if the mobo has the ability for multiple hard drives connections in the first place.

If it isnt an option to have multiple hard drives connected then yes it would be a replacement.

Notebook Hard Drive
USB Floppy
ATAPI CD/DVD ROM Drive
USB Diskette on Key
USB Hard Drive
!Network Adapter

That my friend is not the answer I wanted, now I'm going to have to replace a motherboard. That's ok though, I'm just about to the point where I can tear apart these DV series laptops and put them back together blind folded.

Have a great evening!!

Just a quick question, isn't there a way to update the bios, to tell it to look elsewhere for the HD.

If you can't tell, I really don't want to change out another mother board.

Most bios can be updated. But you just can't make an option appear, the manufacturer decides what options your allowed to change.
