Speakers acting up

I've had this problem where my speakers basically don't work unless I'm on an active call on Skype.
Basically I have no sound unless I'm talking to someone on Skype, any idea why this is happening?

That tells us very little. What speakers do you have? sound card? latest drivers? Is it appearing in Sound options?
