Drive w/ data says it's not formatted

When I try to access my E partition (2nd disk) it says that the drive is not formatted... It just started doing this recently.. is there a way to format a drive without losing the data?

I tried convert E: /fs:NTFS but it said it was already in NTFS...

the idea of formatting is to take a drive and completly erase all the data thats in it. and by 2nd disk to you mean second HD?

what type of file table does the boot partition use? you may also want to reseat the IDE cables.
