Help! Parts of screen inaccessible

Yeah, so basically, parts of my actual screen aren't filled in by whats on display.

Don't know how to explain it in words properly so here's a photo -



It doesn't happen every time I switch on the Laptop, but when it does, it starts from the moment the laptop is turned on (boot up I believe it was called). It may sometimes fix itself when starting up windows, and the display on my second monitor is fine as normal.

Anyone know how to fix this?
 
I would blame the LCD. There's probably a loose connection. Or the connector could be bad, similar to a video cable.

Is this still under warranty?
 
No it isn't unfortunately.

But are there alternatives other than sticking my laptop on hibernate after I'm done?
 
Hibernation for a laptop isn't really meant for long time use. Hibernation saves the memory to hard disk, and shuts off the system. So it is really like shutting down, just in a different way.

Shutting down will not hurt your LCD. This is a connection problem, not a system problem.
