I need to know if my power supply ought to be replaced or not. I replaced my old one a couple of months ago, but due to finacial reasons I had to go the cheap route.

I bought this unit: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-167-007&depa=0

a MGE Vigor 400 watt power supply.

I have a P4 3.0, 2 HDs, 2 512mb chips of ram, and a BFG OC'd fx 5500 video card, and 1 fan. My computer has ran great, but recently I added the second HD, and occasionally I will turn on my computer and nothing will boot up, no image, no loading of the OS. I'm wondering if this is being caused by the PS being overworked.

Here is the voltage read outs right now, read by a program called PCAlert 4:

Vcore 1.50 - 1.54
3.3V: 3.26
+5V: 5.08
+12V: 11.64 - .70

Do these look alright?

If not, please recommend some good cheap Power Supplys, preferably no more than $50. Thanks

400watts should be enough for that, but it is close. Try and take out one HD and see if the problem persists. If it does, then a bigger PSU is needed. Here are some 450watt PSUs $50 and under. Just remember there is one golden rule with PSUs. The more expensive, the better they are...period. So if it is the PSU, get a good one, maybe even more watts. I bought a 500watt for my comp, even though it will run on around 400-420. And it is nice, cost me a $100, but worth every penny. Because I spent that extra money, it is silent, cool, and reliable. Plus it look really good! Here are some 450watts under $50:

These would be ok, but I would recommend one of these:

(this next one is the one in my pc)

I highy recommend that one cause the rails are very stable, which equals more stablity. Cheaper PSUs have lower rails and tend to fail and cause system insability. I can not say enough about this PSU. Ask around, most people here would love to have this in their rig! Let me know if you need anything else.

Dont know, you'd have to search around. Again, I HIGHLY recommend it. It is one of the best for quality and looks. And btw, not to dawg your recommendation, but that site says I only need 300watts for my rig in my sig! Before I my current PSU, I had a 350watt that definatley blew out on me after I upgraded to a better video card. I might could get by on 400watts, but I wouldnt risk it. So 500watts is the way to go, mainly for stability and I am gonna add 1 or 2 HDs after awhile and maybe a DVD burner. Plus I plan on OCing the CPU quite a bit.

According to the Calculator I need around 330 watts, I wonder if my PSU is putting out that much?

That ulta PSU is very tempting, especially since I'm using a very cramped MicroATX Case. If I had a seethrough case I'd be all over that.

Now my +12V is dropping to ll.40, is that bad.

Also what is the consensus on Aspire power supplys, becasue Micro Center had a 520 W unit on sale for like 50 bucks the other day.

They are ok,...remember, the cheaper the price the lower the quality,...period. The Ultra is the best for the money and has been rated with one of the most stable rails. You can not go wrong with it,...and if you wanna see it, mod your case and put a window in. That is what I did.
