I have a compaq laptop. I want to connect it to my tv. My laptop has s-video out on it. My tv has s-video in, RCA inputs, and HDMI inputs.

First question: S-video to HDMI would probably be my best bet, correct?

Second question: Do i need anything other than that an S-video to HDMI cable? I know from previous experiences that sometimes you need a middle man, like some type of converter? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It would be A LOT easier just to get a plain S-video cord. Just plug and go.

For S-video to HDMI, you need a controller box. S-Video is analog, HDMI is digital.

You would save a lot of money just getting an S-video cord.

Mindovermaster,

so s-video to s-video, and it will work? color and all? how about sound? i have 3.5mm audio out on laptop.. so would headphone jack to rca audio work?

You can get an S-video + audio cable. Or separate. S-Video does not carry sound over the cable. The same way VGA cannot.

You plug in S-video, and plug your audio cable to an out port on your computer (headphone jack) to an in port on your TV.

Of course you have color. We're not in the days of black and white TVs.

the reason i asked color is because in the past i have tried svideo to rca and the display on my tv came up black and white.

but thanks for the help!
