Okay, so i've been using my original xbox, modded with Xbox Media Center for a while now, but the playback is sometimes sluggish streaming over LAN and fastforward/rewind speeds are a joke sometimes. So, i've decided to possibly build an HTPC.

It would be used as a DVR as well as it would have to play Hi-Def video. Currently, I would be using it for strictly standard-def videos since I have yet to obtain the spare $$ for a nice HDTV, always waste it on computer stuff :umm: So, i'd just throw an older Graphics card in there that has S-video out for my TV.

So, this is currently what I have spec wise setup and was just looking for suggestions. Never built a strict HTPC before .. and not sure the exact requirements for HD video recording/encoding.

Western Digital AV-GP WD20EVDS 2TB SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal AV Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Newegg.com - Western Digital AV-GP WD20EVDS 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal AV Hard Drive -Bare Drive

(Would just be the first of 3 probably.. but dont need THAT much to start with)

MSI 880GM-E41 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Newegg.com - MSI 880GM-E41 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

(One of the better mobos I found, included HDMI out for future usage)

Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 Media Center Kit Dual TV Tuner 1213 PCI-Express x1 Interface
Newegg.com - Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 Media Center Kit Dual TV Tuner 1213 PCI-Express x1 Interface

(Not sure with this one, I would like remote functionality, and dual tuning would be nice. Heard Hauppauge is the way to go with Tuner Cards, but have had no experience with such in the past)

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

(Liked the brand, currently have it in my gaming rig, but not sure if 4GB is enough, or overkill)

AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor HDX945WFGMBOX

(Would like to have a decent processor for any sort of conversions needed, but again .. not sure if this processor is good enough/overkill either for my specific needs.)
