I have an extra case and a new power supply already so I need everything else. I don't plan on OC'ing or water cooling. I've been unable to do much research into current tech as I've been deployed to Iraq for the last year so trying to get some help.

For instance is triple channel ram that much different from double (besides the more obvious anyway). I would like to have some future upgrade potential meaning I don't want to be locked into a soon to be dead socket or anything. I would like to have SSD if it fits within my budget without having to sacrifice elsewhere. I will mainly be loading the OS and maybe Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Thanks in advance for any information you guys can offer me if I need to be more specific I can try I just don't have as much time on this computer to really get in depth on components. (I'm still in the process of coming home)

Also I won't be needing a monitor, speakers, mouse or keyboard as I have all these covered already. I don't feel the need for Blu-Ray drive either burner or just player because I'll just use my PS3 for the time being for Blu-Ray.

The triple verses double ram thing really only matters for the cpu... i7s use triple channel for max speeds, and i5s and amds use double channel, so triple won't do anything.

What size and brand is your psu, and what case do you have... gotta make sure things properly fit in it.

For your price range, assuming you need monitor, keyboard and mouse, and speakers, an AMD build is your best option.

Welcome to tech forum, i'll look into a build.

Yeah edited in after the fact what I forgot to include orirnally. No monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers or OS required as I got those covered. I'll be upgrading the computer and selling the old one for cheap to a friend so those parts are not included in my pricing.

Edit: I posted another post but it said it needed to be approved and then I posted another one answer the monitor/keyboard mouse question (this one and it didn't need it) so the case is Antec 1200 lightly used and XFX Black Edition 750W PSU. That information might pop up here in a little bit :p

Okay then...... time to rebuild.... Youre now into a 1366 i7 build... And the case and psu will handle it no prob.

Edit

Heres an i7 1366 build... Its intels top line so it'll be around, plus the base chips rock, and right now, their top chips are over your budget them selves.

Okay, first I'm, not a huge ram knowedge guy, so someone will give better, but thoses are mid range price.
The SSD, meh... again its 60Gig good for OS and minimal program.
Now this is the odd issue... I have 2 1T drives, ones a Blue, used for the programsd not going on the SSD, and the Green for pure storage.

It all comes together for $1154

Now on Gordys build, not bad, but the i7 is king, though it has 2 less real cores, but it has 4 virtual cores, Which honestly doesn't matter as nothing uses 6 cores yet. And he added stuff you didnt need ;)

Glad your heading home brother! I should be doing the same soon :D How big is the power supply that you have? Here is build that future proofs you but just know that I do not suggest getting an SSD right now its just not worth it for the cost per GB. I did include it in this build though because you asked for it. Also I included a monitor not sure if you need that or not?

Now .... I would suggest again NOT getting the SSD its just not worth it. Second ... depending on what you are wanting to task this CPU with you may not need a 6 core processor either. If its just for gaming go with a quad core build.

Edit: >< I post to slow it seems

Yeah I'm covered on monitor and peripherals. I have heard that WD has some good larger capacity 64 mb cache drives that work pretty quickly. I guess I could always go SSD later on when they come down in price. I plan on mostly gaming on this computer I don't do any rendering or really anything else truly intensive.

Good deal then just wait for PatonB to post that 1366 socket build it will be smoking. No sense in staying in AMD territory since you have all the extra parts covered already

I'm getting kicked off the computer so someone else can use it, thanks for all your help so far I really do appreciate it.
