you can't have an sli setup on a board with an amd chipset, and you can't use ddr3 on an am2+/am3 board, it has to be am3 only.

As far as I'm aware You can have a SLI setup with an AM3 CPU, Just not the chipset. Just, there aern't many boards.

I know you wasn't saying you couldn't do that btw ^ I was just adding my ten cents, to give the OP more of a choice :D

Some examples:

NF980-G65 Desktop Board | Overstock.com

Asus M4N75TD nForce 750a (Socket AM3) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard - Aria Technology

Not sure how good they are though.

Like i Said in a newer topic, My budget has been increased to $1000.
I don't need an OS.

Are you wanting an I7 build or is an AMD build still ok? AMD still the best bang for the buck in this price range but the 1k opens up new doors namely the I7 920 I think (will have to wait for Intel folks for this one)

an intel i7 build for just the main components cost $550 ( i7 950, Sabertooth motherboard and 6 gigs of ram )

so that leaves $450 for the graphics card($200),case($50), dvd burner($20), cpu Cooler($30), powersupply($100), monitor ($150) and keyboard/speakers/mouse($90). so estimated you are looking at...

so we are looknig at an estimated $1190 ( before tax and shipping ) for the kind of system you are looking for.

both those boards you linked have nvidia chipsets, thus they will support sli.

Forget the i7 core system have a look here of what I built up for you and yes your getting a hexacore and it's compatible with the mobo.
If my mothers MSI AM2+/am3 system can handle it so can yours. :)

Yes DDR2 is heading out the door soon but you should be fine for now, also AMD may not be top rank in high class cpu's with intel but it will do exactly what you need it to, minus washing the dishes and clothes.
I just saved you 125.01 bucks thats enough to pay the electric bill you will get at the end month.
