I may be posting this in the wrong section....if so feel free to move it to where ever it belongs.

my wife wants to get rid of our stereo in the basement.....equalizer....receiver...turntable....cd palyer....I said ok, if we replace it with a media pc....something capable of playing all of our music, but I need it to sound **** good....I also need it to be cheap

I can add on some stuff later......

I need the following
1. Mobo.....a nice brand that will sound sweet....any thing cheap stand out?
2. CPU
3. Ram
4. Power Supply......nice solid supply needed
5.Case.......the best cheap case available, will good cooling
6. A nice sound card for music, unless there is good onboard...then I can add later.
7. DVD drive

Any ideas and advice will be greatly appreciated....really looking for some cheap good sound:grin:

Right now just for music and i can always add that feature later....unless of course it is pretty cheap....I am going to be using my old 21" crt for now as my monitor...

That is a micro mobo slaymate....I will did up a gpu somewhere.....I have been hoping you would show up in this thread with alittle advise

I would go with a micro-board and a small compact case for a Media PC. The i3 has a built-in gpu that's more than good enough for Blu-ray or any other video format so your Media Player could actually be a HTPC.

I am patiently following this thread. Media CPU is my second project after I get home. I have to agree with slaymate why go media center with no blue ray playback?
