Hi everyone, this is my first post on the forums ! I might just need to head over to the introduction section shortly

Well i have completed my HND business and computing degree which gave me a rather vague overview of web design, networking, programming, database design etc. Simply to get a taster of all different areas and for a qualification that will be noticed as more of an academic standing than one to use to get me into a specialised area.
I also hold a BTEC in ICT practitioners (simply to leaver me into the role of HND) and had the chance to do 2 semesters (or exams) of CCNA as part of the BTEC, i passed both fortunately. :)

So my question is any guidance on where i could go from here ? I would like to work with networking such as administration more than anything; i have been looking at the network+ course but understand this only gives a basic touch to networking in general such as protocols and IP addressing.

I understand CCNA and CCNP are evidently the most recognised when it comes to network administration ?

Also any material that can be recommended in regards to learning exchange server ? i have been looking through some books on Amazon with mixed reviews; so its a double edged sword and not really sure what to get :(

Thanks for your time and help :)

Welcome to TF.

You are correct the net+ will only give you a foundation to build on. Any type of networking admin job will definitely require you to have either a degree in networking or your CCNA. CCNA is highly regarded because it is a difficult exam to pass and it require you to retake the exam every two years to stay certified.

Respectfully, I would like to expand on the CCNA comment.

When you get your Net+, study up for your CCENT. (yes, do both, why? Because the ICND1 covers basic stuff regarding CISCO Routers you WILL use) and than turn around and study for the IND2 (CCNA exam)

When you get your CCNA, there is ANOTHER CCNA you need to get, which is CCNA-Wireless, and CCNA-Security.

These are an absolute must! The Wireless tells the employer not only can you work hard-wired networks, but you can also operate, and excel in the wireless networks as well. The Security is a must, because it tells the employer you know how to keep important information secured.

Also, get your A+ prior to getting your Network+. Why? Because the A+ has a foundation of all computer hardware/software. while the Network+ focuses on Computer Networking.

Once you get your Network+, start dual study for ICND1 exam, and the Security+ Exam.

Once you have those two, study for the CCNA-Security, and CCNA exams.

Once acquired, start working on CCNA-WIRELESS, and CCND

Once you get those, start working on studying for the CCNP and CCSP exams. (CCNP first)

But take one step at a time.

And oddly enough, all college ATAs in WA anyways, their CIS degree programs, always have Network Classes towards the A+, Linux+, and Network+. as well as Security+ in order to obtain the degrees.

So while studying for your degrees, you can get your college credits, even see if you can get credits for already obtained certs.

Two classmates of mine got 5 college credits for having their A+ already, and another got 15 Credits awarded for already holding A+, Linux+, and CCENT.

If you can pass the CCENT, (ICND1 exam) you can pass the Network+, and vice-versa.
