Laptop does not detect printer

I have Toshiba L500 and it will not detect my HP Deskjet F4480. The printer works fine, and is brand new. I dont have this issue with my ipod touch or my mouse. Whenever I connect the printer I get a error message saying that its a unknown device. I installed the most recent driver for the printer. Help anyone?

Try disconnecting the Printer cable, and plug it back in when the laptop is on. See if it tries to detect it when plugged in.

still have same problem. says that the device has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it.

Does it work in another computer? This might not be related, but did you have a different printer prior?

ive never used a printer on this laptop before. i only bought it because of university. ill try it on someone elses laptop sometime this week.

Considered wireless printing?

like using an airport express or airport extreme? very easy to setup
