I am currently considering purchasing this mobo:

Newegg.com - ASRock 870 EXTREME3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
---
and this RAM:

Amazon.com: Patriot Viper II Sector 5 Series with Futuremark 3D Mark Vantage Dimm Kit PVV34G1600LLKB (Black): Electronics
---

I am curious how do I tell if ram will work in my system?

I will be using a amd phenom ii x4 955 be cpu... if that helps...

Please someone either tell me if it works, or/and how to tell.
Sorry for the stupid question... :stare:

Your board supports:
Memory Standard:DDR3 1800(OC)/1600(OC)/1333/1066/800
The memory is:
Extreme Performance PC3-12800 (DDR3 1600MHz) Low Latency (8-8-8-24) at 1.65V

Key is DDR3 1600

Yes it will work.

i looked on newegg and it said your ram was DDR3 1800mhz, which is still technically with in your boards limitations, now however i would wait for another opinion b/c im not sure if the board will recgonize that it runs at 1800 native and not overclocked that might make a difference, i would suggest looking for different ram tho, that set you have there is running at 1.65 volts which is the upper end for what alot of cpus can handle
