SLI'ing 2 different cards

Hello all i was have afew questions about sli i currently have a palit GTX460 1gb card a friend of mine recently bought Newegg.com - EVGA 01G-P3-1373-AR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Superclocked EE 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card x2 says he cannot get them to sli no matter what he tries he can see em both and even use one as physx but they will not sli for whatever reason anyways he wants to get rid of them and i was wondering if i bought one of the card to sli with my current 460 if it will do so. ive been told yes and no by afew places i just wanna get a straight answer

as long as the cards are from the same chipline up they should work, now there could be a problem with one of the cards, or a problem with the bridge that was causing your friend to have problems. However with that said you shouldnt have a problem doing it
