ready to build a new comp, need some suggestions plz

building a new computer after 4 years, my old one has served me well but its time to upgrade. heres what i got so far

I will probably be using my old case Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-WW Black/Silver Aluminum Bezel, SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

i tried to put together that will last me for a while. I have never done any overclocking but im thinking i might look into it with this new system, wondering if i should get more fans.
Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated

You'll want a cpu cooler... Not sure on 1366 ones, so someone else will chime in.

If your going to oc, i'd save 15 bucks, and go with the 930, as they both will hit about the same overclock.

If you need to save cash, going with an 850tx will save 50 bucks, but you lose modularity.

that is an awesome build... only thing i would change is get this ram for only a few dollars more, its faster. but if your budget is absolute maxed out then the ones you chose are superb.

but the only other thing i would suggest is get a CPU cooler. to be blunt, if you have an i7 and dont overclock it, you're.... well, to keep it PG, foolish. they love being overclock and its super easy to get a basic overclock.

thanks. i was going back and forth with modularity or not i like the idea of having a modular psu but saving 50 sounds nice too, but i feel like the case i have the more room the better. I wasnt really sure if im going to try and overclock, again i like the sound of doing it, but im not sure im really going to do it.... but id like to lol .

As said above..... you'd be foolish, as its pretty easy to get a good umph for the cost of a cooler, which is a good investment anyway.

what kind of environment will you be operating in. I.e. Is the room hot, or cold... I ask cuz this is the delima for me since the room is very hot at times lol

congrats, you are going to have a computer that can play any game at absolute maxed out settings...

but to give you another option, here is a build i put together last night that has an i5 and a 5970. basically the only difference between the i5 and the i7 is that the i7 has hyper threading... which unless you are keeping a stock speed, you are going to dissable with the i7 anyway... but here is the build just go give you another option... just take out the case since you already have one and throw the operating system in there... this build would be faster and its cheaper

Why would he be disabling hyper threading?

Alot of people overclock with ht... Its how they fold big units.

Yeah, I'm running 4.1GHz on my i7 930 with HT on, HT improves multi-threaded performance by a significant amount and is useful for folding or other heavily multi-threaded processing. I recommend the 1366 platform for HT but also for the higher internal bandwidth and triple channel RAM controller. If you're going for a high end build the 1366 platform is the way to go. I would however recommend a full ATX motherboard over the microATX you chose, either a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R (my personal choice) or an Asus P6X58D, both are great choices and are full ATX so you have more room to expand.

As for the CPU, go with the i7 930 or the 920 if you can still find it, they're the cheapest i7's but can easily hit the same speeds or higher with a bit of overclocking. Literally the ONLY difference between the 920, 930, 940, 950, and 965 is the multiplier (which sets the stock frequency). All of these chips can be overclocked to 4GHz with a good cooler in most cases. Save the extra money from the CPU upgrade, get a 930 or 920, and spend the extra cash for a good CPU cooler/heatsink. This will let you overclock and you can get much better performance.
