Trouble with backlight

Hi everyone. I have a Toshiba A205 with an interesting case. I'm having backlight trouble (I believe) because the screen goes dark but I can still see it faintly. However, if I hook it up to a desktop monitor or unhook it from the monitor, it comes back on for about 5 minutes or so. Does anyone know if this is easily fixable? Thanks!!!!!

Yes, that is the problem and yes, it can be fixed. But it is a hard process. You have to open your LCD to replace it. Even I found it hard after doing it a few times. I would rather you buy a new LCD.

Model number is S5804...how come it still works after I disconnect it from a monitor for a few minutes?

Your backlight is fading, not out.

Will cost $100. If under warranty, RMA it. If not, this is a cheaper/safer route.

How tricky is it to fix doing it this way? I can't afford not to have a laptop (or my setup now, although I would prefer to be mobile). One time I tried to fix a iPod video screen by putting a new one in and that didn't go well...
