how could i go about diagnosing a hdd just to check if it isn't messed up before i install in someone's system?

the hdd in question hasn't been used in awhile and as far as i know it doesn't have anything important, so data loss isn't a concern if there's a risk of that when checking it out.

this is the model # if it's of importance:
WD1200JB-00GVA0 (it's a wd caviar se 120gb ide)

perfect, tested the drive with 2 of those (just to be safe :p) and it looks like it should be good to go. thanks Yami :D

...grr, gotta spread some more before i can get to you again...

lol, all I did was google 'hard drive test' :p I don't deserve rep for that.

(see my subtle hint there? ;))

thx Slay :D

yea, i kinda realized that it was probably something i coulda just googled, i didn't find that page though which has multiple tools... :p

(now i look extra nooby xD, o well)

i guess, but like i said i just wanted some way to test it to make sure because i knew it hadn't been in use in over a year and i didn't even know i still had until a few days ago.
