New graphics card

Its about time I updated my card as I would like to be able to play new games well. I am looking for a pretty good card but there are just so many out I dunno where to start. Anyone got any suggestions for about £270/$490 budget?

First off, what is your computer specs. It makes no sense to upgrade to a killer vid card if you system can't keep up with it. Post your specs here so we can see. But for $490, you can buy a Nvidia 6800GT that would rock the house for a long time. BUT, you need to have a good comp to keep up. So post those specs plz.

The 6800GT is a great card, but it depends on what you will be doing with that good of a card, you might not need to spend all of your money if you just need some basic graphics capabilities.

Thats almost just like my rig, although I don't see why you would go all out on your other components and get a GeForce 4 MX card. Anyway, get a 6800GT. It will turn that into a killer system.
