advice on a partial build

So, I'm embarrassed to say, I used to know this stuff...but I'm so far behind on tech now I don't trust my judgment.

Here's what I put together for an upgrade to my completely out of date desktop (any component not listed I have already).

Can you please let me know a couple things:

1. If all these things will play nice with each other
2. If there's anything grossly mismatched (i.e. video card /= proc)
3. If you think this can solidly play current/next gen games (LFD2, SC2, GW2, Steam games, etc)
4. If there's anything you would absolutely NOT get and what you would recommend instead

the western digital green drive would be better off as a seperate storage drive not a primary. I would switch it out for this one.

Haha...yeah probably should have mentioned that.

Probably around $750-800 for these parts (proc, mobo, video, hdd) but that's not a super hard ceiling if another $50 or something would help get over a hump into another tier of part.

Oh, also for future knowledge...the Athlon IIs are > Phenoms?

generally speaking, when you compare quad vs. quad (tri vs. tri and dual vs. dual too since they should be around the same price), yes the athlon ii's are better.

that is, better than the phenom i's, just to make sure you're not getting them confused with the phenom ii's which are better than the athlon ii's.

From what I've seen, the ATi Radeon HD 5830 performs better than the GTX 460, for the same price.

The best thing to do in ANY case regardless of any budget (unless it's super low ) Is go for futureproofing. Don't spend an absolute ton on just one component and cut on all of the others. I'd go with a cheap - ish AM3 Board, Amd athlon II 635 - Decent budget quad core, low cache but will still perform admirably, some decent DDR3 4gb kit. An Ati 5770 or a gtx 460 etc. If you want me to spec you up a system, let me know where you live and I'll use the relevant site .
