Help With Upgrading System

Hi all,
I'm new here and this is my first post. I look forward to staying on these forums.
Anyway, I would like to see your suggestions on how I can upgrade Motherboard (and probably my CPU) but also keep the rest of my system. I would normally do this myself but since my PC has some fairly old parts (3-5 years) and some brand new parts in it, I am questioning the compatibility.
I would be spending about $150 and under the Motherboard. The CPU is optional (i have a functional CPU but i would appreciate an upgrade). Price range for the CPU is $150 (give or take 10 or so dollars). In total I have have 400 bucks to spend but I would only like to spend 300 or so. If you find a really good deal, I am willing to spend all of the 400, but that is only if you find: quiet, powerful, and compatible parts.

GPU: HD 4670: 1GB DDR2 (Its a fairly good card for only 80 bucks)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

I did some more searching and I found this on Newegg.

you can't be running ddr3 ram because your current board doesn't support it, you must be running ddr2.

since this is the case, if you do go with an i5 upgrade you'd need to buy new ram too.

Yeah Sorry what i meant by putting the DDR3 is that I've already got a DDR3 chip thats compatible sitting around. My dad was gonna use it but he didn't. Please check out my other setups.

#'s 3, 4 and 5 i wouldn't consider because lga775 is basically a dead socket now, and #2 i wouldn't consider either because the i5 6xx series cpus are just overpriced, you can get a quad for a little bit more.

that leaves #1 or the parts you listed your previous post, except that i would change the i5 760 to a 750 instead, they are charging you extra for a tiny raise in clock speed which you can surpass quite easily yourself.

Hmmmm. Yes, I did notice most of the LGA775 Users commenting on it being sub-par. But I do like the results I got on my friends Pentium Dual-Core 2.9 Ghz. It is way faster than my Pentium D and thats all i want. Unfortunately, almost all of the i3's have integrated graphics chips, and I HATE (with a passion) integrated chips. And once again, unfortunately, i5's are really overpriced.

Do you think it would be possible to find a Core 2 Duo or a Core 2 Quad for around 100-150 bucks?

I don't really know what else to do with the motherboard. I don't want to spend over 140 on it.

either way, if you're picking up new parts with your budget, i suggest stick with either an lga1156 or amd am3 build.

I will go with that motherboard (i've looked at it before, seems solid) but not that Processor. I'm not comfortable with AMD in general but if i can find a cheap 50-100 dollar dual-core AMD chip, I'll take that setup.

in your original post you say you would be willing to spend $400 but would like it to be closer to $300, but all these options you keep listing and looking at are all like under $150.

Around 100-200. And no i didn't say i'd be willing to spend 400. I said at maximum, and absolute maximum, i have 400 to spend.

I think one of those setups i have though is pretty good. I like the Athlon II Quad Core x4 setup
