Newbie Help for a PC rig?

Im on a budget of 300-400 MAX for some light to medium gaming. Intel based maybe a i3 board? I dont know what parts to get for my budget if you could help me. If that isnt to much thanks.

Is there anything you can re-use from an older machine - SATA hard drive, DVD drive, monitor, keyboard+mouse, and perhaps RAM depending how old this theoretical older machine is.

I already have a monitor keyboard & mouse. My older desktop I handed down to a cousin and I have a laptop as of right now. I actually would like to add $50 to my budget. Yes I mean USD.
