I have an opportunity to acquire a new T3500 Precision workstation - Dual Core Intel Xeon W3503 2.40GHz., 4GB DDR3 RAM. IWould this server be a good gaming system overall? Would be an upgrade from my XPS 720 Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4, also 4 GB RAM Big difference? Putting my current Radeon 4850 video card in it.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I will be equipping it with 6-8 GB RAM. I just cant quite tell if there would be a processor benefit for gaming. It would primarily be a gaming machine - also be used for daily life with the most intensive being basic Photoshop/Illustrator/Web development.

well for running applications simultaneously and as far as stress on the cpu goes, dual xeon would be better choice, more cache. But if gaming is your main focus, Q6600. IMO 4cores>2

Your better off keeping your q6600, adding more ram to your system, and possibly gpu upgrade?

Thanks for the input. Thats kind of what all the graphs at Tom's Hardware seemed to be suggesting, but it wasnt clear. On this particular Dell the only wothwhile chip upgrade is the QX6800 3.0GHz quad core. But at its price I might as well by a new i7 ;^)
