I am trying to build my own good gaming system for about $730. I have a list of what I know I need, am I missing something? I do not need an os,mouse, keybored or monitor.

you need to get a mobo that is just am3, not am2+/am3, like this one.

also, why do you need 2 optical drives? and the burner you listed is ide, get a sata instead.

Thanks for the reply, well I have a dino dell that has two drives. I always thought one drive was for watching movies etc. and the other was for burning and ripping. Is only one required for burning and watching? I could also due this build witch is what I am more leaning twards. Basically I want a good pc that can play newer games along with older ones, do multimedia, internet and what ever else I need with no problem. Heres is my second build.

Plus the case which would be about $40-50. Im still a noob at this so if you can suggest a better build for my needs, throw it out there. The monitor I can get from a friend, I can get a mouse and keybored with no problem and really do not need speakers right now as I use headphones allot.

a dvd burner will read and write both cd's and dvd's.

i would drop the sound card unless you're real picky about your audio. many mobos already support 7.1 channel hd audio already.

Thanks for the reply. So many parts to choose from. Well I compiled this list. This will be without a monitor or case witch I can get local for about $60-70. That would be a case with good airflow and fans and a lcd monitor.

The pc should put me at about $503, along with the monitor and case. So $573. Is this a good build for a descent gaming pc? Everything in the above list should be more then enough of what I need.

The reason I mention this motherboard is that it's crossfire ready, has the new 880 chipset (which is nice) and is able to unlock extra cores. The Phenom II x2 and Phenom II x3 chips are all actually quad core chips. Your mileage may vary, but, I have had 2 of the Phenom II x2 550s and both worked fine when I unlocked the 2 extra cores (that's a quad core chip for $80) I also use the motherboard I linked.

FYI my Phenom II x2 550s run 4 cores @ Phenom II B50 (no idea where that model come from, that's what CPU-Z calls it) 100% stable at 3.7ghz.

I see that someone gave the motherboard a bad review, but I don't know what his deal was. I didn't have any issues with mine at all.

Like I said your mileage may vary but your chances are good for unlocking the cores. And if for some reason you don't unlock the cores, that Phenom II is a black edition which is easier to overclock, and you'll still be running any game you throw at it with impressive framerate.


I also recommend the Radeon 5770 over the 5750. It's only $10 or so more expensive, and the performance difference is well worth it.
