Performance:
So overall, I'm really happy with it. It runs every single game I've played on it so far at very high settings without a hitch: C&C3, Portal, CoD4, Racedriver GRID, Medieval 2 TW etc. All at VERY high FPS at 1600x900. It dominates these games. And remember, this is without overclocking anything.
Now, my original plan was to be able to play Crysis at Very High, 8x AA at max resolution without lag. So does it do it? Overall, yes, the game is very playable and enjoyable. There are only two points in the game's story where the FPS drop to the low 20s. And that's only if you're standing in a certain position and looking in a certain direction. Other than that, I usually get between 35 and 45 FPS which is great. Max FPS I've seen so far is around 65.
I'm really anxious to see how overclocking will affect these figures.
Waiting for DIRT 2 to arrive in the mail to see how it handles. And by the looks of what I've seen of the 5870 on Youtube, it should dominate the game.
Future plans for my rig:
- Lap my i7 920 and my TRUE120. Gonna be doing this as soon as my sandpaper and rubbing alcohol arrives. Ebay FTW!
- Overclock my i7 920 to 4GHz.
- Overclock my RAM.
- Buy another 5870 and run both in crossfire.
- Spray paint the inside of my case matte black to make it look sexier!
- Oh yeah, and buy a new keyboard.
- Possibly buy some kind of liquid cooling system. Not sure if I'll do this though.
So anyway, what do you guys think of my rig?!
