Gaming Rig (time to upgrade?)

I've actually been thinking now that maybe I should wait until FFXIV is closer to release before buying my video card. I'm not sure if prices will drop then. I'm still worried that the 5830 I was planning on getting might not be enough! Looking at the benchmarks and specs some of these people are running, they have better PCs and still scoring somewhat low/average =X

it all depends on what you are willing to spend, you are comparing your computer to peoples who have spent thousands of dollars on their computer, that is a dangerous thing to do to... you are starting to chase the rabbit down a very deep hole

I have roughly $1000 to spend on upgrading my PC. I just didn't want to spend it on anything that isn't necessary. It's why I'm willing to spend more on my vid card if that was the only thing I need to upgrade. I'm just not sure how my e6600 is going to hold up a couple years down the line. Or if I will need a new mobo or get more ram

id go with a 5850, it is the sweet spot between price and awesome performance.

Depending on if you plan to run 32bit or 64bit operating system then id say the "norms" are 2gb or 4gb respectively (assuming you don't have an i7).

Edit: To elaborate further, 2gb should suffice for most daily tasks and less intense games. I wouldn't build a gaming comp with less than 4gb though (personal preference)

I got a 2593 on the FF 14 benchmark with the HD 5770 @ 1080P
According to Square Enix:

[2500-2999] Standard Performance Capable of running the game on default settings.

ran Fraps in the background, FPS dipped down to as low as 28 during one scene, mostly hovered around 40-50

hardware:
i5 750 (stock clocks)
4 GB DDR3 1600
HD 5770 (core 875, memory 1200)

You can save some money by going to a i5 750 build, or even an AMD build.
