I want to take parts off my old comp as well such s the 5.1 sound card, and it has a 500watt power supply can i use that or should i go withy the new one i picked out? I will also transfer the 2 HD's i have on it for videos.

The i5 750 will not work with a LGA 1366 mobo, it needs a LGA 1156 mobo. And you want to buy a (2x2GB) kit of memory as the i5 750 does not have a triple channel memory controller. And Ultra makes the worst power supplies.

I'm sure you can run 8gb (2 4gb dual channel kits) with that i5.

PSU I'd go with a corsair. Because if you're going to be spending upwards of $300 on a grpahics card then you should get a good quality PSU.

If the purpose of this build is to game then 4GB is more than enough. If you feel the need of more RAM you can get 4GB later on.
The 500W PSU you already have is probably enough for this build. What's the brand of the PSU?

dont get a knock off powersupply, go with a name brand, like corsair or cooler master.

i5 doesnt use triple channel ram, it uses dual channel

the 5850 is a great graphics card...

are you planning on over clocking the processor? if you are you need to get a CPU cooler.

what case are you planning on using?

and, just to oipen a nother dorr of options for you, inless you are dead set on using intel, you can spend the same amount of money on a 6 core AMD processor as apposed to a quad core i5. i think at stock speeeds the i5 is faster, but if you over clock them both i think the cheaper AMD 6 core will out perform the i5. if you decide to go with AMD you need an AMD mother board.

ok here is an updated list of some hareware. what do you think?
Asus M4A785 TD motherboard
X6 AMD Processor
1 stick 4 Gb DDR3 RAM maybe 8
The hard drives from my comp i have now, the same case but a new 750 watt power supply
the case i have now is the antec 900 gaming case i assume i should keep it?
