my current system specs are in my signature, everything at stock speeds.. would it make sense price wise to
get a v8 cooler for $40 and overclock my cpu?...

what are some realistic speeds i can get on air cooling with that processor?

$40 for the Cooler Master V8??? That's a good price and it's a pretty good cooler. I usually don't recommend the V8 because of the price but it's worth $40

You should be able to oc it to 3.6 to 3.8 GHz or slightly higher.

3.8 is **** near impossible with these chips. I'd say 3.6 is pretty realistic though, 3.7 for 24/7 if you are very lucky. Not sure what it is with these 940's but they just won't play nice after that.

I have a very similar motherboard as the OP and I couldn't get it to boot enough for a super PI run at 22c, similar voltages. Not sure what the dealio is but it really bums me out.

Could be that the power going through the CPU isn't stable.
With my MA790X-UD4P, 3.8GHz was easy. 3.9 was almost 100% stable for 24/7 usage.

Highest speed I got mine was 4160MHz for a superpi 1M run
