^mine took 20 mins, from download, to phone restart and ready, as well as a carrier update

My 3GS took a little over 20 minutes all up. A mate of mine, after he upgraded, got all his pictures converted to low res for some reasonn. He had to sync his pics back from his backup

^why do you need to back it up anyway? isn't everything you have on it set to sync to it anyway? so even if the data on the phone was lost, all you would have to do is sync it again.

Not everyone has theirs setup like that, or will be doing the upgrade on their usual pc/mac. Just a safety thing

yup i os4 on my 8gb 3g fried my phone apple was kind enough to replace it though
