Hi everyone, i've been doing quite a bit of research lately and I look to purchase a computer in about mid July. This PC will be mainly used for home/office/gaming. So, in any case, im not looking to build a super high performance machine. My allotted budget is around $1200-1300 CDN. As I'm for this type of process i'm fairly new to it; first time custom - building. Could someone please lend me a hand and decide whats best for my needs? I have a rough outline, but it will cost too much money! These prices are from newegg.ca

P.S.: I would like to have an i7 processor and a decent video card.

Here is what I have atm:

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders – OEM ($109.99)

Heat Sink
(NOT SURE HERE)

Case
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case ($109.99)

Thanks to all who contributed.

personally i would get a 5830 or 5850 graphics card... but thats just cause im a Radeon fan boy...

for a heat sink, anything noctua is boss

and i would go with a 700 Watt powersupply just to be safe

Is this build any good? I mean im not a hard core gamer, just playing mostly strat games and sports. So ideally, i think im still above the budget. In what way can I lower that price?

go with an Antec 300 case, ( $60 ) a smaller hard drive ( $50 ) and a radeon 5770 ($160 ) also you have a higher end motherboard.. for what you are doing i dont think you will benefit from having that board... unfortunately i dont kow enough about mother board to recommend one

for almost the same price, i would get this faster gfx card.
Newegg.ca - XFX HD-489X-ZSFC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

for the i7, you should get ram in sets of 3, so without spending too much more, this kit would do.
Newegg.ca - G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL7T-6GBPK

i'm not sure why you chose like, the second most expensive 1tb hdd available. this one will do.
Newegg.ca - SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

if going with an i7 is just killin your wallet, you could go with an i5 instead. you would just switch around the cpu, mobo and ram.
Newegg.ca - Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor
Newegg.ca - MSI P55-GD65 LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard
Newegg.ca - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM

everything else you could leave how it is.

also, since you're in canada, you might want to take a look at http://ncix.com/ for some of your parts.

Hey, thanks for the help so far, so what is a good heat sink to get for the i5?

Unless your planning on overclocking, no aftermarket heatsink is required. Otherwise, these are some pretty good i5/i7 heatsinks:
Newegg.ca - Prolimatech Megahalems Rev.B CPU Cooler
Newegg.ca - Thermaltake Frio Overclocking-Ready Intel Core i7 (six-core ready) & i5 Compatible Five 8mm Heatpipes Dual 120mm Fans Intel & AMD Universal CPU Cooler CLP0564

If your getting an i7, you could use this heatsink:Newegg.ca - Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120 mm Core-Contact Freezer CPU Cooler W/TX-2
with this bracket: Newegg.ca - Sunbeam CR-LGA1366 LGA 1366 Core I7 Socket Retention Bracket Set

Scythe is a good brand for quiet heatsinks if you are interested in something that won't wake the neighbors. Check out this site for reviews:http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm
